Market Development Facility

We are a multi-country initiative that promotes sustainable economic development by aiming to increase incomes for women and men in our partner countries. We support partners from both the business and government sectors to identify and grow commercial opportunities that are profitable, scalable and deliver social and environmental value.

We are co-funded by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs (DFAT) and the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT).

Where we work

MDF works in seven countries across Asia Pacific. Click on the dots below to find out more.

What we do

At MDF, we use a Market Systems Development (MSD) approach to promote sustainable economic development, through higher incomes for women and men, in our partner countries.

We connect individuals, businesses, governments and NGOs with each other, and with markets at home and abroad. This enhances investment and coordination and allows partnerships to flourish, strengthening inclusive economic growth.

The economic empowerment of women is central to our work. Our teams in Fiji, Timor-Leste, Sri Lanka, Samoa, Tonga and Vanuatu are dedicated to ensuring that our activities benefit women and girls.
