Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority

MDF SSLTDA-Logo-smri Lanka has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA), the apex body for tourism in Sri Lanka, to collaborate on a comprehensive development programme for Unawatuna, a popular tourist destination on the Southern coast. This is a pilot effort of a larger tourism development strategy by the SLTDA to develop a network of ‘micro destinations’ across the island.

The collaboration will work towards setting up a night market concept in Unawatuna, serving to centralise the various vendors and other service providers in the area and providing a platform for these private sector players to utilize the available market opportunities. The MoU focuses on placing employment generation and economic empowerment at the centre of its mandate. MDF will be assisting SLTDA to assess the feasibility of the night market in Unawatuna and develop a sustainable business model.
