The leather sector in Pakistan is heavily export driven, for both finished leather and leather goods. The global market trend for leather goods is moving towards a demand-driven tighter regulatory environment, and global importers are increasingly requiring certification for imports. The public sector has built some laboratories but they are unable to maintain requisite service standards and lack international accreditation. On the other hand, private sector companies offer limited testing services locally, while a majority of tests are conducted abroad, which is expensive and time consuming. Presently, only large manufacturers of leather goods are able to afford these tests. Herein lies an opportunity to reach out to mid-level leather goods manufacturers and exporters in the country.
Maintaining quality and standard is of paramount importance for Pakistan to remain competitive in international markets. If leather goods manufacturers have local access to an accredited testing facility, they can avail services to learn more about the quality of their products and compliance to testing standards, get accredited locally, save time and cost, and cater to export markets.
Textile Testing International (TTI) has been providing quality assurance testing services to the apparel and textile industry since 1995. TTI is internationally recognized through its accreditation by Pakistan National Accreditation Council (PNAC), and is endorsed by multiple authorities – for instance International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC) and the Asia Pacific Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (APLAC); Consumer Product Safety Commission, United States; and Next, UK, making TTI on par with state-of-the-art testing laboratories around the world. It is the only Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) approved lab of Pakistan.
To support Textile Testing International generate awareness about their comprehensive range of leather testing services through a series of outreach and marketing activities. This in turn will enable manufacturers and exporters of finished leather and leather goods to receive internationally accredited certifications locally. TTI will also reach out to international buyers and inform them on local leather testing so they may directly influence Pakistani manufacturers who outsource leather tests at the moment.
