MDF works in strategic engagement areas that represent a major part of the economy, have long-term growth prospects and are relevant for poverty reduction and inclusive growth. In Sri Lanka, MDF operates under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism Development and Christian Religious Affairs and focuses on Tourism and Related Sectors, within in two strategic engagement areas: (1) Diversifying Tourism and (2) Authentic Sri Lankan Goods.

Through these engagement areas, MDF aims to create approximately 2,040 jobs and increase incomes for 25,092 households, reaching up to 97,860 men, women and children. These results are based on a two-year implementation time-frame (2015-2017) leading into the end of MDF Phase 1. Results are expected to increase in MDF Phase 2 (2017-2022).
