MDF works within a select number of strategic engagement areas that represent a major part of the economy, have long-term growth prospects, and are relevant for poverty reduction and inclusive growth. In Sri Lanka, MDF will focus on tourism and related sectors, working within four strategic engagement areas: (1) supporting the diversification of Sri Lanka’s tourism destinations, products and services, (2) improving Sri Lankan produce and products for export and tourism markets, (3) stimulating entrepreneurship in former conflict-affected areas, and (4) innovation in digital services to facilitate international tourism and export-led, services-oriented growth as well as inclusive growth.

Through these engagement areas, MDF aims to create approximately 2,040 jobs and increase incomes for 25,092 households, reaching up to 97,860 men, women and children. These results are based on a two-year implementation time-frame (2015-2017) leading into the end of MDF Phase 1. Results are expected to increase in MDF Phase 2.
