MDF Pakistan, along with its Partners in Leather, exhibited at the three-day Pakistan Mega Leather Show 2018 (PMLS’18), promoting a wide range of leather products. The Pakistan Footwear Manufacturers Association (PFMA) and Pakistan Tanners Association (PTA) organized the mega show with more than 100 stalls attracting an audience of over 10,000 visitors coming in from different segments of the leather industry, business community, related organizations and members of the public.
PMLS is an annual expo promoting a wide range of leather products; including footwear, garments, gloves, accessories etc. The Federal Minister for Commerce, Muhammad Pervaiz Malik, formally inaugurated the fourth PMLS18 at Lahore International Expo Centre. In addition to that, the Ambassador for Italy in Pakistan, Dr Stefano Pontecorvo, specially participated in the event and interacted with aspiring local and international entrepreneurs, businessmen and buyers.
MDF’s partners, including Servis, Footlib, Textile Testing International Laboratories (TTI), Tabraiz Mould Engineering (TME) and Intra Last, showcased a wide range of products on their stalls. During the expo, MDF networked with input suppliers, leather-goods manufacturers, interested buyers, and prospective partners in the Leather sector with a view to encourage economic growth and development. MDF took this opportunity to explain relevant areas of collaboration within the Leather industry, and how interventions rolled out in the programme.
MDF supports retail-ready goods manufactures, not only to enhance their existing capacity but have improved access to support services , such as inputs, that would enable them to expand production and supply new products to current and new markets. To illustrate, MDF supported Servis in setting up a female only footwear stitching unit, along with a day-care facility for children in Muridke. Moreover, MDF supported Footlib in setting up a dedicated women-only stitching line in its factory, with an ability to produce shoe uppers for both mechanized and cottage industry players.
MDF supports TTI to generate awareness about their comprehensive range of leather testing service through a series of outreach and marketing activities, at both local and international levels. The private sector players who showed keen interest were welcomed at the stall for a meeting.
The forum provided a viable platform to MDF, to nurture stronger ties and develop potential areas of collaboration between the allied industries of the Leather Sector of Pakistan. It also featured a special exhibition of quality products being produced by MDF’s partners in Leather manufacturing industry of Pakistan.
Production, tanning and manufacturing of leather-goods is credited as the second biggest export-oriented industry in the manufacturing sector of Pakistan. The PMLS 2018 attracted potential buyers and investors from China, India, Italy, Germany, Hong Kong, Cyprus, USA, UAE, Spain and Tunisia. They showed keen interest in the growing leather industry of Pakistan. The event also consisted of business-to-business meetings held on all three days. The event had presence from international and domestic Footwear designers, buyers of footwear and leather-goods, and consumers. This platform provided the visitors access to vital information and networking opportunities with the national and international customers.
