MDF hosted a series of events titled ‘Silage Baithak’, in the regions of Sahiwal, Faisalabad, Multan and Mardan, in collaboration with Pioneer Seeds, Cattkekit and Bank Alfalah.Silage Baithak promoted localized production of small silage bales and exchanged learnings and experiences with potential silage makers and industry players to generate interest in the model.
MDF has worked with rural male and female silage entrepreneurs in Punjab, Sindh, KPK and Azad Kashmir to promote localized production of small silage bales and also partnered with machinery providers and financial institutions to deliver silage making solutions for farmers. With first of the many silage baithak, MDF aims to promote production and use of silage amongst small farmers.
Ghulam Mustafa, Market Development Manager from Pioneer Seeds spoke about the importance of silage and how it affects animals. Sajid Bodla, CEO Cattlekit talked about the availability and types of silage machinery for farmers in Sahiwal. He also talked about the benefits of each kind of machinery and the after sales service provided by Cattlekit.
Muhammad Yahya Hameed, Agri Business Manager from Bank Alfalah talked about the availability of finance for starting silage business and the procedures for obtaining loans.
Through examples of its work in different parts of the country with rural silage entrepreneurs and sharing of first hand experiences of its partners, MDF demonstrated the business viability of small bailed silage model to various stakeholders.
MDF’s silage rural entrepreneurs, Muhammad Usman and Abou Sufyan shared their experience with the audience and talked about how the challenges and opportunities around small silage bale business. This was followed by a question and answer session.
Farmers showed keen interest in the silage machinery display and interacted with the representatives at the stalls of MDF, Pioneer Seeds, Cattlekit and Bank Alfalah. It was attended by approximately 800 progressive and small-holder farmers. See event highlights here.
