Tonga

MDF’s work in Tonga supports government priorities outlined in the Tonga Strategic Development Framework. They focus on key sectors—agriculture, tourism, renewable energy and financial services—to drive inclusive and resilient economic growth.

MDF’s interventions boost agricultural productivity and tourism while advancing Tonga’s nascent solar PV market in line with the country’s renewable energy targets. Their initiatives also address labour challenges by promoting female participation and accommodating persons with disabilities, through strategies like agricultural mechanisation and accessible tourism infrastructure.
Collectively, these efforts contribute to sustainable growth and enhanced economic stability in Tonga.

In Tonga, MDF focuses on financial services, agriculture, tourism, business development services and renewable energy.

Financial services include credit assessment, payment gateways, renewable energy finance, and remittances, transfers and savings.

Agriculture includes kava, vanilla, pigs and agricultural mechanisation.

Tourism focuses on yachting tourism, branding and marketing and diversifying tourism activities.

Other markets that MDF works in include renewable energy and business development services.

“There is untapped tourism potential in Vava’u, where we can showcase culturally significant and beautiful natural attractions. MDF’s support for insurance, uniforms and sound systems was critical in expanding our services.”
