Samoa

MDF works with partners to contribute to Samoa’s growth and development.

MDF in Samoa works primarily in agriculture, tourism, and the digital economy, aligning with the Samoan government’s priorities through initiatives that promote diversified and sustainable economic growth. MDF interventions support key strategies outlined in Samoa’s Pathway for Development and Agriculture and Fisheries Sector Plan, focusing on increasing productivity, climate resilience, and income security.

By targeting agricultural mechanisation, feral pig management, kava, cocoa, food manufacturing, solar energy, and financial services, MDF’s work directly contributes to enhancing income and employment.

Additionally, MDF’s focus on women’s economic empowerment and disability inclusion further integrates with national objectives for comprehensive economic development and growth.

MDF focuses on digital financial services and agriculture in Samoa.

Digital financial services include credit assessment, payment gateways, renewable energy finance, and remittances, transfers and savings.

Agriculture includes work in feral pig management, agricultural mechanisation, kava and cocoa.

Junior Filipo Lilo, Ava farmer, Fiji

“My family has greatly benefited from working with [MDF partner] Samoa Herbs because we can sell the ava consistently throughout the year and not worry about the changing weather patterns. More and more ava farmers are asking me if they can also sell their ava to Samoa Herbs when he comes around, which is good for me, as sometimes I am not able to meet the volume of ava orders from Samoa Herbs.”
