Earth Day 2025

This Earth Day 2025, MDF hashtag#PacificRegional celebrates Our Power – Our Planet by spotlightingour solar partnerships in Samoa and Tonga.

In #Samoa, we’ve teamed up with local installers and financiers to map solar rooftop opportunities—analysing energy costs, outage impacts and barriers to investment—to unlock the island’s abundant sunshine. Early findings show that with the right education and innovative finance models (like lease-to-own, solar loans and net metering pilots), homes and businesses can reduce diesel dependence and stabilise energy bills.

In #Tonga, our joint study revealed strong community awareness of solar’s benefits but limited uptake. By co-designing tailored financial products and working with insurers to underwrite installation risks, we’re helping reduce upfront costs and build the confidence needed for wider adoption. In line with Earth Day 2025’s call to triple renewable energy generation by 2030, these partnerships demonstrate how local action, and smart collaboration can power a cleaner, more resilient Pacific.
