Sassrika – Improved Fertiliser

Most farmers rely on traditional chemical fertiliser, which damages long-term soil health and increases environmental risks. Sassrika Lanka, founded in 2013, produces locally made, bio-based fertiliser that improves soil structure, reduces environmental impact and lowers dependence on imported inputs. In 2023, MDF partnered with Sassrika to pilot a farmer-led model in the paddy-rich Ampara District that combined demo plots, advisory services and awareness campaigns. The pilot led to a 25-fold increase in sales over three growing seasons,
with farmer reporting improved yields, soil conditions and plant health.
