Financing the transition: Unlocking rooftop solar for households and SMEs

Energy costs are high across the Pacific, with frequent power cuts and heavy reliance on diesel, exposing countries to volatile oil prices and straining households and economies. Yet cleaner, cheaper alternatives exist.

In Samoa, Tonga and Vanuatu, households and businesses are willing to invest in rooftop solar when information is clear and financing is accessible. MDF is working to identify barriers to investment and partner with entrepreneurs, financiers and regulators to lower upfront costs, improve quality and mobilise private capital—helping make renewable energy a practical, cost-effective and climate-friendly option for everyday users.
