Lava Group to Offer Interactive Cultural Tours

Tonga’s tourism sector has faced significant challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic and natural disasters. The Government of Tonga and other tourism stakeholders are keen to rejuvenate and diversify tourism activities, including showcasing Tonga’s rich cultural heritage.

MDF is partnering with Lava Group to offer interactive cultural tours targeted towards cruise ship tourists in Vava’u.

The inaugural tour saw cruise ship tourists participating in local activities such as kava ceremonies, school visits and village tours, immersing themselves in making traditional handicrafts and enjoying delicious local cuisine.

Two more tours will take place later this year, bringing much-needed economic activity and employment opportunities to the local communities in Vava’u. Stay tuned for more updates.
