Feral Pigs Pose a Major Threat
Feral pigs pose a major threat to agriculture in #Samoa, causing significant damage to crops like taro, the country’s staple food, and discouraging agricultural investment. MDF is currently working with the Government of Samoa to trial Pig Brig traps across communities throughout Samoa.
Hansell Supplies, a family business based in Savai’i, played a pivotal role by importing the first Pig Brig trap for personal use. Their knowledge and support have been instrumental in educating farmers, government officials, and community members about the traps.
MDF is now supporting Hansell Supplies to make the traps available for sale or hire. Hansell Supplies will offer affordable hire options for farmers unable to purchase the traps outright.
With continued collaboration and innovation, farmers in Samoa can better protect their livelihoods from feral pigs.
